Brett Favre undergoes ankle surgery

GREEN BAY, Wis., Feb. 26 (UPI) -- Veteran Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre had minor ankle surgery Monday.

"The procedure went as expected and he is recovering at this time," Packers General Manager Ted Thompson said. "We expect no complications and that he will be cleared to participate in off-season workouts similar to his schedule in 2006."

Earlier this month, Favre announced his decision to return for a 17th season. He started all 16 games for the 14th straight season in 2006, stretching his consecutive starts streak to 237 (257 including playoffs), an NFL record among quarterbacks.

Favre, 37, completed 56 percent of his passes for 3,885 yards with 18 touchdowns and 18 interceptions last season.

Favre passed Dan Marino last season for the most completions in NFL history. He is one victory shy of John Elway (148), six TD passes from tying Marino (420), and is 3,862 yards short of surpassing Marino for the most passing yards in history.
