PLAYA DEL CARMEN, Mexico, Feb. 25 (UPI) -- Fred Funk holed a seven-foot birdie putt on the second playoff hole Sunday to beat Jose Coceres and win the Mayakoba Golf Classic in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.

At age 50 years, 8 months and 12 days, Funk became the fifth-oldest champion ever on the PGA Tour. He is also the third player ever to win on both the regular tour and the Champions Tour in the same year -- joining Raymond Floyd and Craig Stadler in that category.

Funk shot a 1-over 71 Sunday for a total of 14-under 266. Coceres reached the same total by firing a 69.

Funk saved par on the first playoff hole from a greenside bunker before making birdie on the second.

Peter Lonard finished third at 267, while Ryan Armour was at 268 and Bill Haas at 269.
