NHL: Carolina 4, Atlanta 1

ATLANTA, Feb. 24 (UPI) -- Justin Williams scored twice Saturday night to boost the Carolina Hurricanes past Atlanta, 4-1, in a battle of teams fighting for a playoff spot.

Carolina won its third game in four tries, with John Grahame making 28 saves.

The Hurricanes are in seventh place in the Eastern Conference post-season chase with 71 points, while Atlanta has 72. Carolina is just two points behind Tampa Bay in the race for first place in the Southeast Division.

The lone goal for Atlanta came from Garnet Exelby, as the Thrashers lost for the sixth time in seven games.
