TUSCALOOSA, Ala., Feb. 24 (UPI) -- Quan Prowell scored 17 points Saturday as Auburn opened a big second-half lead and held off No. 25 Alabama, 86-77.

Alabama suffered its fourth loss in five games, as its hopes for a berth in the NCAA Tournament continued to slide. The Crimson Tide fell to 19-9 for the season and 6-8 in the Southeastern Conference, while Auburn is 16-13 and 6-8.

Powell made three three-pointers during the second half as the Tigers opened an 18-point cushion. Alabama ran off 11 straight points to get within six, but came no closer.

Alabama was led by Richard Hendrix with 17 points and Mikhail Torrance had 14.
