Woods eliminated in match play tourney

MARANA, Ariz., Feb. 23 (UPI) -- Tiger Woods' seven-event winning streak on the PGA Tour ended Friday when he was eliminated at the Accenture Match Play Championship in Marana, Ariz.

Nick O'Hern ousted Woods on the second extra hole of their third-round match, after Woods had rallied from a four-hole deficit.

Woods had not lost on the tour since last July, and was chasing the seemingly untouchable all-time record of 11 consecutive wins set in 1945 by the late Byron Nelson.

O'Hern, who defeated Woods in this tournament two years ago, holed an eight-foot par putt on the second extra hole, after Woods missed from 10 feet. Woods also missed a five-foot birdie effort on the first extra hole that would have given him the match.

O'Hern will meet Henrik Stenson in Saturday morning's quarterfinals. Stenson, the highest-ranked player left in the tournament at No. 9, defeated Aaron Baddeley in the third round.

The other quarterfinal match-ups will find Justin Rose taking on Trevor Immelman; Chad Campbell facing Stephen Ames; and defending champion Geoff Ogilvy playing Paul Casey. Campbell is the only American left in the field.
