BOGOTA, Feb. 20 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Tathiana Garbin earned a first-round victory Tuesday at the $175,000 Copa Colsanitas Santander tennis tournament in Colombia.
Garbin posted a 6-4, 6-4 win over Kathrin Woerle and moves into the second round against Jorgelina Cravero in the clay court tournament.
A pair of former Copa Colsanitas winners also won first-round matches Tuesday, although both were pushed to a third set. No. 2-seeded Flavia Pennetta ousted Tatjana Malek 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 and third-seeded Dominguez Lino defeated Sara Errani 4-6, 6-1, 6-3. Lino beat Pennetta for the 2006 title and Pennetta defeated Lino in the 2005 final.
Sixth-seeded Roberta Vinci rallied to a 3-6, 7-6 (7-4) 6-2 win over Katerina Bohmova; No. 7 Klara Zakopalova blitzed Nuria Llagostera Vives 6-2, 6-3 and eighth-seeded Hana Sromova beat Estrella Cabeza Candela 6-1, 6-2 in other matches Tuesday.
Also posting first-round wins Tuesday were Cravero, Barbora Zahlavova Strycova, Greta Arn, Pauline Parmentier and Alize Cornet.
The Copa Colsanitas champion takes home $25,840.
