INDIANAPOLIS, Feb. 20 (UPI) -- Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy, putting to rest rumors that he would retire, said he will coach the team next season.
Dungy led to the Colts to the Super Bowl, defeating the Chicago Bears 29-17 about two weeks ago, but didn't say for sure that he would be back in the Indianapolis sidelines until Monday.
"Obviously, you want to come back," Dungy said. "You want to defend the title. We've got such a great group of guys, that that's eventually what draws you back every year."
Dungy has coached the Colts for five seasons, building a 60-20 regular-season record and a 7-4 record in the playoffs.
As to rumors that he would retire, Dungy said: "Every year is different. Certainly, there was a lot of emotion (after the Super Bowl). You never really know until it's all over. I try to sit back at the end of the year and look at everything, where we're going to the future."
