BANGALORE, India, Feb. 16 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Mara Santangelo ran her event winning streak to eight with a quarterfinal victory at the Sony Ericsson International tennis tournament in India.

Santangelo dispatched Yurika Sema 6-1, 6-4 Friday as she moved into the semifinals of a tournament she won last year. Santangelo is paired with Olga Savchuk in the semifinals.

Savchuk upset fourth-seeded Jelena Kostanic Tosic 6-3, 6-4. Tosic was Santangelo's finals opponent last year.

Crowd favorite and second-seeded Sania Mirza was also upset Friday, dropping a 6-7 (2-7), 6-4, 6-4 decision to Yaroslava Shvedova. Shvedova goes against Tzipora Obziler in the semifinals Saturday. Obziler advanced on a 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) win over Melinda Czink.

The $175,000 tournament wraps up Sunday when Saturday's semifinals winners play for a champion's check of $25,840.
