
MARSEILLES, France, Feb. 14 (UPI) -- Nikolay Davydenko and Ivan Ljubicic, the top two seeds, were beaten Wednesday at the ATP Open 13 Tennis Tournament in Marseilles, France.
The top-seeded Davydenko, from Russia, was ousted by unseeded Robin Soderling of Sweden, 6-3, 4-6, 1-6. No. 2 Ljubicic, from Croatia, lost to Frenchman Nicolas Mahut, 6-4, 6-4.
Croatia's Mario Ancic, the third seed, was beaten by Italy's Andreas Seppi in a walkover when he retired because of an undisclosed illness while trailing 0-4 in the first set. Sixth-seeded Richard Gasquet of France beat Czech Jan Hernych 6-1, 7-5.
Eighth-seeded Aussie Lleyton Hewitt was a 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, winner against Michael Llodra" class="tpstyle">Frenchman Michael Llodra; Thomas Johansson of Sweden beat George Bastl of Switzerland, 7-6, 7-5, 6-3.
Swede Jonas Bjorkman trounced Daniele Bracciali of Italy, 6-3, 6-2; and Finland's Jarkko Nieminen beat Jeremy Chardy of France, 6-7 (1-7), 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (8-6).
