SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 13 (UPI) -- Wild card Sam Querry, 19, downed fellow American Paul Goldstein 6-2, 6-1 Monday at the $416,000 SAP Open in California.

The win means Querry will likely face top seed Andy Roddick in the second round.

First, Roddick must defeat Canadian Frank Dancevic in the first round. Roddick won the SAP Open two straight years before falling to Andy Murray of Scotland last year.

German Simon Greul beat American Robert Kendrick 6-3, 6-2, and additional first-round wins came for 6-foot-10 Croat Ivo Karlovic, Denmark's Kristian Pless, Taiwan's Yen-Hsun Lu and American Sam Warburg.
