WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., Feb. 8 (UPI) -- Serena Williams announced Thursday she will play for the 2007 United States Fed Cup team.
The decision by the Australian Open champion will allow her to join older sister, Venus, on the team, which will battle Belgium in the quarterfinals in April.
"We are thrilled to have Serena back on the U.S. Fed Cup team, especially after her tremendous victory at the Australian Open," said team captain Zina Garrison. "The last time both Serena and Venus were on the court for a U.S. Fed Cup team was 2003, so it will be an exciting time to see the sisters together again."
Serena Williams is an eight-time Grand Slam champion, and has a career 6-0 record in Fed Cup matches.
The United States has not won the Fed Cup title since 2000.
Belgium, which features superstars Justine Henin and Kim Clijsters, was runner-up to Italy last year.
