French postpone decision on Landis

PARIS, Feb. 8 (UPI) -- French sports authorities have granted a request by U.S. cyclist Floyd Landis to postpone any decision on banning him from racing there.

In a letter to the AFLD, the French agency dealing with doping accusations, Landis asked any decision be delayed until its U.S. counterpart rules in May. Landis could be banned from racing in the United States for two years and faces a similar penalty in France.

Landis won last year's Tour de France but could become the first person to be stripped of the title for doping. Elevated levels of testosterone were found in his urine.

In his letter, Landis said he would not participate in any French races this year.
