
PATTAYA CITY, Thailand, Feb. 8 (UPI) -- Unseeded Martina Sucha beat top seed Marion Bartoli in the second round Thursday at the Pattaya Women's Open tennis tournament in Pattaya City, Thailand.
The native of Slovakia, who lost the first set, rallied to beat her French opponent, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
In another surprise, qualifier Tzipora Obziler from Israel ousted eighth-seeded Aiko Nakamura of Japan, 3-6, 6-1, 6-1.
Australia's Nicole Pratt topped Vania King of the United States, 6-2, 6-4.
Friday's quarterfinals will pit third-seeded Italian Mara Santangelo against fifth-seeded Sania Mirza of India; No. 4 Shuai Peng of China against Obziler; sixth-seeded Gisela Dulko will challenge Pratt; and Sucha will play Sybille Bammer" class="tpstyle">Austrian Sybille Bammer.
Australia's Alicia Molik was forced to pull out of her scheduled match against Dulko Wednesday with a left hamstring injury.
The tournament's winner Sunday will earn a first-prize check of $23,700.
