Before the rollover, he had five years remaining on his current contract.

The 56-year-old Bellotti is second in victories in 12 seasons at the Pac-10 school has an overall record of 97-48, making him the state's all-time winningest Division I-A coach.

"I had every intention of rolling the contract," Athletic Director Bill Moos told the Eugene Register-Guard. "We just thought right now, on the verge of signing day, would be the best timing."

Moos said Bellotti will continue to earn a salary of $150,000 per year from the university, but his guaranteed base contract remains unchanged at $650,000.

His total compensation package, including incentives, is estimated at $1.1 million.

The Ducks were 7-6 overall last season.

They have made 10 bowl appearances in Bellotti's 12 seasons.
