Vaidisova wins, Schnyder loses in Paris

PARIS, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- Czech Nicole Vaidisova was a first-round winner Tuesday but World No. 11 Swiss Patty Schnyder lost at the $600,000 Open Gaz de France.

The fifth-seeded Vaidisova, a semifinalist at the Australian Open last month, beat Frenchwoman Aravane Rezai 6-2, 6-1. Vaidisova's second-round opponent will be Czech Lucie Safarova, who lost to her in the Australian quarterfinals two weeks ago.

Russian qualifier Ekaterina Bychkova defeated the sixth-seeded Schnyder 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.

Also, Camille Pin of France beat Hungarian Agnes Szavay 6-4, 6-0, and Nathalie Dechy of France beat Italian Tathiana Garbin 6-2, 6-3.
