NHL: Boston 3, Washington 2 (SO)

WASHINGTON, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- Phil Kessel scored in a shootout Tuesday as the Boston Bruins posted a 3-2 victory over the Washington Capitals.

Patrice Bergeron also scored in the shootout phase and added a goal in regulation for Boston. Brandon Bochenski also scored for the Bruins.

Each of the three games between these teams has gone to either overtime or a shootout this season. Boston has won 3-2 each time.

Tim Thomas made 32 saves for the Bruins, who have won back-to-back contests for the first time since winning three straight, Dec. 19-23.

Brooks Laich and Eric Fehr each scored in regulation for the Capitals, who have lost four of their last five games.

Alexander Semin scored in the shootout for Washington, which had 22 saves by Olaf Kolzig.
