Bartoli wins, Kirilenko upset in Thailand

PATTAYA CITY, Thailand, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- Top seed Marion Bartoli of France was among Tuesday's winners, but second seed Russian Maria Kirilenko was upset at the Pattaya Women's Open.

Bartoli defeated Spaniard Nuria Llagostera Vives 6-3, 6-4. Kirilenko lost to Australian Nicole Pratt 7-6 (7-1), 2-6, 7-5 in 2 1/2 hours.

In another upset, Austrian Sybille Bammer defeated seventh-seeded Russian Vasilisa Bardina 6-1, 6-4.

In other action involving seeds, No. 6 Argentine Gisela Dulko beat Chinese Tiantian Sun 6-4, 6-1 and No. 8 Japanese Aiko Nakamura beat Thai qualifier Noppawan Lertcheewakarn 3-6, 6-3, 6-1.

American Vania King moved on with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over last year's Pattaya City runner-up, Croat Jelena Kostanic Tosic.
