MIAMI, Feb. 4 (UPI) -- Peyton Manning threw for 247 yards and a touchdown Sunday, as the Indianapolis Colts rallied from an early deficit to beat Chicago, 29-17, in Super Bowl XLI.
The Bears shocked the Colts on the opening kickoff when Devin Hester returned it 92 yards for a touchdown. From there, Manning turned in a stellar performance that earned him most valuable player honors, completing 25-of-38 passes and just one interception.
Playing in steady rain most of the day, the two teams combined committed eight turnovers -- five by the Bears -- including an interception by Bears quarterback Rex Grossman that Kelvin Hayden returned 56 yards for a fourth-quarter Colts' touchdown.
Manning, a nine-year NFL veteran who had faced criticism for failing to lead his team to the NFL championship, brought the Colts (16-4) to their first Super Bowl victory since Super Bowl V in 1971.
Dominic Rhodes gained 113 yards and one TD on 21 carries, and Joseph Addai rushed for 77 yards for Indianapolis.
Grossman completed 20-of-28 passes for 165 yards and one TD to go with two interceptions for the Bears (15-4). Thomas Jones gained 112 yards on 15 rushes.
The Colts gained 430 yards total offense to just 265 for Chicago.
