NHL: San Jose 4, Chicago 2

SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 3 (UPI) -- A goal by Patrick Marleau with about five minutes remaining in the second period Saturday afternoon helped the San Jose Sharks beat Chicago, 4-2.

San Jose led, 2-1, at the first intermission, as goals by Marcel Goc and Curtis Brown sandwiched a score by Chicago's Tuomo Ruutu.

A goal by Martin Havlat at 11:14 of the second preceded Marleau's eventual game-winner, and Milan Michalek scored at 11:54 of the third to cap the scoring.

Vesa Toskala made 20 saves on 22 shots for the Sharks, who broke a three-game losing streak.

Ruutu added an assist to his goal, while Nikolai Khabibulin allowed four goals on 31 shots for the Blackhawks, who have split their last four games.

There were no power play-goals on eight combined chances.
