
PITTSBURGH, Feb. 2 (UPI) -- A shootout goal by Evgeni Malkin Thursday night gave Pittsburgh a 5-4 victory over Montreal, for the Penguins' fifth win in a row.
There were no goals in the overtime.
In regulation, Sergei Gonchar led the Penguins with two goals and one assist, and Malkin and Erik Christensen both scored once. Ryan Whitney extended his points streak to nine straight games with an assist, Sidney Crosby had three assists, and Andre-Marc Fleury gave up four goals on 44 shots for the Penguins, who have a five-game winning streak.
Radek Bonk scored twice, Mike Johnson had a goal and an assist, Mathieu Dandenault also scored once, and David Aebischer gave up four goals on 33 shots for the Canadiens, who have lost two of their last three games.
Gonchar scored both the game's power-play goals.
