Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24
ZAGREB, Croatia, Jan. 30 (UPI) -- Russian Mikhail Youzhny and former Australian Open champion Thomas Johansson of Sweden were among Tuesday's first-round winners at the Zagreb Indoors.
Fourth-seeded Youzhny beat Frenchman Nicolas Mahut 7-6 (7-4), 6-3, and unseeded Johansson, the 2002 Australian Open winner, beat Serbian Janko Tipsarevic 6-4, 6-4.
Italian Daniele Bracciali upset sixth-seeded Frenchman Julien Benneteau 7-5, 7-6 (7-4).
Croatian favorite Ivo Karlovic advanced with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Czech Jiri Vanek and Frenchman Fabrice Santoro beat Argentine Guillermo Canas 5-7, 6-3, 6-2.
