NHL: Atlanta 5, New Jersey 4 (SO)

ATLANTA, Jan. 30 (UPI) -- Marian Hossa scored in the shootout and Ilya Kovalchuk scored twice in regulation Tuesday as the Atlanta Thrashers beat the New Jersey Devils, 5-4.

Niclas Havelid and Glen Metropolit each scored a goal and Slava Kozlov had three assists for the Thrashers, who have won three of their last four games.

Kari Lehtonen made 36 saves for Atlanta, which holds an eight-point lead over Carolina for first place in the NHL Southeast Division.

Patrick Elias, Brian Gionta, Zach Parise and John Madden each scored a goal for the Devils. Martin Brodeur made 36 saves in the loss.
