Colorado's Brisebois out for the season

DENVER, Jan. 29 (UPI) -- Colorado defenseman Patrice Brisebois will have surgery for a herniated disc and miss the rest of the Avalanche's season, the NHL team said Monday.

Brisebois, 36, was injured on Dec. 27 and has not played since. He had one goal and 10 assists in 33 games this season before he was hurt.

"After extensive rehabilitation, further examination and a series of MRI tests, it was determined that surgery was his best option to correct this problem," said Avalanche trainer Matthew Sokolowski.

The surgery will keep him out of action the rest of the season.

Over 16 seasons and 904 NHL games, Brisebois has 90 goals and 301 assists with Montreal and Colorado.
