
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C., Jan. 24 (UPI) -- Wayne Ellington led the way Wednesday night with 18 points and four rebounds as fourth-ranked North Carolina trounced Wake Forest, 88-60.
The Tar Heels (18-2, 5-1 ACC) turned the contest into a rout by out-scoring Wake Forest, 46-23, in the second half.
They continually expanded a slim 42-37 halftime lead, and held a 78-53 lead with 6:21 remaining.
Ty Lawson scored 15 points. Tyler Hansbrough had 13 points and nine rebounds, while Danny Green and Brandan Wright combined for 24 points and 10 rebounds as UNC won its third straight game.
It was the sixth time this season the Tar Heels have held an opponent to fewer than 70 points.
Kyle Visser led the Demon Deacons (9-10, 1-6) with 16 points and five rebounds.
Ishmael Smith scored nine points. L.D. Williams had six points and six rebounds, while Harvey Hale also scored six points for Wake Forest, which suffered its fifth straight loss.
