Paraguay holds lead at golf World Cup

SUN CITY, South Africa, Jan. 20 (UPI) -- Julieta Granada and Celeste Troche faltered slightly Saturday but retained Paraguay's four-stroke lead in the Women's World Cup of Golf in South Africa.

Granada and Troche turned in a three-over-par 75 in Saturday's four-ball event. The Italian team of Giulia Sergas and Veronica Zorzi shot one-over 73 to jump into second place. South Korea, which was in second place after the first round, shot 77 and slipped to fourth.

The U.S. team of Pat Hurst and Juli Inkster made the biggest move of the second round, jumping from eighth to third on the strength of a two-under 70 -- the only under par round of the day.

"It was a very tough day. Pars were a good score out there," said Troche. "We were burning the edges of the hole with birdie putts for most of the day and I think we just wanted it too much."

The 22-team field will finish the tournament Sunday with a better ball format.
