
PITTSBURGH, Jan. 20 (UPI) -- Mark Recchi had a hat trick and Evgeni Malkin had five assists Saturday night in the Pittsburgh Penguins' 8-2 rout of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Penguins scored five goals on 21 shots against Toronto starting goaltender Andrew Raycroft, and scored on 3-of-9 shots against Jean-Sebastien Aubin when he came on for the third period.
Toronto led after Jeff O'Neill's power-play goal at 3:19 of the first period but Jordan Staal tied the score 91 seconds later and Pittsburgh went ahead on a Jarkko Ruutu goal 8:26 into the period.
Recchi made it 3-1 with a power-play goal later in the period and added another power-play goal in the second period. He made it 5-1 when he completed the hat trick later in the period, when the Penguins had a 5-on-3 advantage.
Sidney Crosby joined the Pittsburgh scoring parade 4:02 into the third period and Michel Ouellet got the Penguins fifth power-play goal of the game to make it 7-1. The Maple Leafs got a goal from Brendan Bell but Ryan Malone finished off the Pittsburgh scoring with about 5:20 to play.
