NHL: San Jose 5, Phoenix 2

SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 19 (UPI) -- Ryane Clowe and Patrick Marleau each scored a goal and assisted on two others Thursday night in the San Jose Sharks' 5-2 win over the Phoenix Coyotes.

The Sharks won their fourth straight game and their seventh out of eight. Phoenix has lost four of its last five.

Fredrik Sjostrom gave the Coyotes a first-period lead with a goal against San Jose goalkeeper Vesa Toskala, but Marleau -- with an from Close -- tied it up with 6:03 to play in the first with his 22nd goal of the season.

Milan Michalek put in a rebound to push the Sharks ahead early in the second period, and Marleau and Joe Thornton set up Clowe's goal eight minutes later.

The Coyotes' Travis Roche answered early in the third period but Matt Carle scored for San Jose and Thornton completed the scoring with an empty-net goal, with assists from Clowe and Marleau.
