KAUPULEHU-KONA, Hawaii, Jan. 19 (UPI) -- Brad Bryant opened his round with four consecutive birdies Friday and sailed to the first-round lead at the Champion's Tour MasterCard Championship in Hawaii.

Bryant ended up with a 9-under 63 and leads defending champion Loren Roberts and Ben Crenshaw by two strokes. Hale Irwin, Allen Doyle and Jerry Pate shot 6-under 66 and are tied for fourth.

Bryant backed up his hot start with birdies at 6 and 7 to make the turn at 6-under. He also birdied 10 and 13 and capped the round with a 58-foot birdie putt on 18 for the two-stroke advantage.

"It felt amazing. I kept hitting these putts that kept going in. It was the single best putting round of my life," Bryant said. "I've never had an experience quite like that. Even at the last hole, it was just magic."
