DURHAM, N.C., Jan. 18 (UPI) -- Greg Paulus had 17 points and Duke's defense was stingy Thursday night as the No. 17 Blue Devils beat the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, 62-40 in ACC action.
Duke had lost two of its previous three games and dropped six spots in the latest rankings. But with the defense holding Wake Forest to 33 percent shooting Thursday night, the Blue Devils improved to 15-3 overall and 2-2 in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Wake Forest is 9-8 overall and 1-4 in ACC play.
Even with the woeful offensive showing, Wake Forest trailed only 20-17 before Duke finished the first half with a 15-4 run and a 14-point halftime lead. The Demon Deacons were down by double digits the entire second half.
Josh McRoberts supported Paulus with 11 points and eight rebounds. Three other players scored nine points each for Duke.
