Mud set to fly in Jason Kidd divorce

HACKENSACK, N.J., Jan. 13 (UPI) -- Documents filed in New Jersey Nets basketball star Jason Kidd's divorce hint at a pattern of violence that will likely be aired in open court.

The 10-year marriage of Kidd and his estranged wife, Joumana, spiraled down to mutual restraining orders and a spate of allegations that will be part of the trial that begins in Hackensack next week, the New York Daily News said.

Mrs. Kidd's lawyer said her restraining order was "based on violence" and allegations of infidelity were on the table.

Kidd contends he is a battered husband married to a "jealous and paranoid" woman.

The Daily News said Kidd pleaded guilty in 2000 to socking his wife in the mouth, but there had been no subsequent public reports of trouble at the Kidd home since then.
