Pat Riley has hip surgery

MIAMI, Jan. 12 (UPI) -- The Miami Heat announced Friday that Coach Pat Riley had undergone successful hip surgery.

Thursday's surgery was the second operation for Riley in just over a week. The Miami coach took a leave of absence to have both knee and hip surgeries. Riley said the pain he had endured had grown too great to continue coaching.

Although Riley said he would return to the team, neither he nor the club has set a timetable for his comeback.

The Heat are 2-2 under assistant Coach Ron Rothstein going into Friday night's game at Golden State.
