GLENDALE, Ariz., Jan. 12 (UPI) -- Two of Tomas Holstrom's three goals came during Detroit's four-goal third period Thursday night as the Red Wings pulled away from Phoenix, 5-1.
Phoenix had won its previous seven games, but had no answer to Detroit's late offensive surge.

It was the second hat-trick in Holmstrom's nine-year career.
He scored on the power play with 49 seconds left in the first period and Detroit maintained its 1-0 lead until Yanic Perreault tied it 28 seconds into the third.
Holmstrom then gave Detroit the lead for good at the 6:57 mark of the third and his final goal made it 4-1 with 5:08 remaining.
