2014 Olympic finalists learn fate in July

LAUSANNE, Switzerland, Jan. 11 (UPI) -- Cities in Austria, Russia and South Korea looking to be the site of the 2014 Winter Olympics will learn which will be the host of the event in July.

The International Olympic committee on Thursday issued a release saying it had received appropriate paperwork from each of the candidate cites and set up three-day visits to each location.

The IOC informed PyeongChang, South Korea; Salzburg, Austria; and Sochi, Russia, last June that they were finalists for the 2014 Winter Olympics.

The IOC Evaluation Commission said it would visit PyeongChang Feb. 14-17, just ahead of traveling to Sochi for a Feb. 20-23 stop. The committee trip to Salzburg was set for March 14-17.

The commission is to have a report prepared for the IOC membership by early in June. The announcement of the 2014 host city is scheduled for July 4 during the 119th IOC Session in Guatemala.
