BOSTON, Jan. 10 (UPI) -- Jermaine O'Neal scored 23 points Wednesday night as the Indiana Pacers defeated Boston, 97-84, and left the Celtics shorthanded due to a serious injury.

Boston star Tony Allen suffered an apparently major injury to his left leg in the third quarter when he landed awkwardly. He was taken to a local hospital for examination.

Indiana won its third straight game and also won for the first time in four tries this season in Boston. Jamaal Tinsley added 17 points and Danny Granger 16.

Allen scored 19 points before suffering the injury.

Indiana scored the final eight points of the third period to take a 24-point cushion into the fourth quarter.
