SYDNEY, Jan. 10 (UPI) -- Jelena Jankovic took the second set 6-0 in beating top-seeded Amelie Mauresmo in the quarterfinals of the Medibank International tennis tournament in Sydney.
Jankovic opened the tournament with a victory over world No. 7 Martina Hingis and Wednesday ousted Mauresmo, the No. 3 ranked woman tennis player in the world, 7-5, 6-0, after losing the first three games of the match.
"In a few minutes, I was already down 3-0; I just made so many mistakes," Jankovic said. "But in the second set I found my rhythm and was just going for my shots and everything was going in. I felt like I could close my eyes and just hit the lines, especially my backhand. It worked really well."
Jankovic, rated 12th in the world, moved into the semifinals against eighth-seeded Nicole Viadisova, who defeated Ana Ivanovic in her quarterfinal match.
The other semifinal pairs third-seeded Kim Clijsters against Li Na. Clijsters needed less than an hour to beat Shahar Peer, 6-2, 6-1, in her match while Li was a 7-5, 6-1 winner over Katarina Srebotnik.
