
NEW YORK, Jan. 9 (UPI) -- Viktor Kozlov scored the decisive goal in the third period Tuesday as the New York Islanders beat the New York Rangers, 5-3, at Madison Square Garden.
Mike Sillinger scored twice, Sean Hill and Randy Robitaille each had two assists and Miroslav Satan had a goal and an assist for the Islanders, who ended a six-game losing streak.
Brendan Witt scored his first goal of the season and first as an Islander. Rick DiPietro made 28 saves in the win.
Jaromir Jagr and Martin Straka each had a goal and two assists, while Michael Nylander had two assists for the Rangers, whose four-game winning streak came to an end.
Brendan Shanahan scored the other Rangers' goal. Henrik Lundqvist stopped 21 shots to the cross-town Islanders.
