Johnson heading back to Arizona

PHOENIX, Jan. 9 (UPI) -- The Arizona Diamondbacks and New York Yankees finalized a trade that sends relief pitcher Randy Johnson back to Arizona for four players.

The Diamondbacks will get the services of Johnson, who passed a physical examination Monday and agreed to a contract extension through 2008, and cash for pitchers Luis Vizcaino, Ross Ohlendorf and Steven Jackson, and infielder Alberto Gonzalez.

Johnson, 43, had back surgery after the 2006 season but said he hoped to be ready for the start of the season.

Johnson pitched for the Diamondbacks from 1999-2004 and helped the team to the World Series title in 2001 over the Yankees. Four of his five Cy Young Awards came in Arizona. A 10-time All-Star, Johnson has 280 wins over his 19-year career and thrived in Arizona, building a 103-49 record.

Vizcaino, 32, was 4-6 with a 3.58 earned run average in a team-high 70 appearances for the Diamondbacks last season. The other players in the deal spent most of last season on the Double-A minor league level.
