DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., Jan. 9 (UPI) -- NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. is taking a rather tepid tone when speaking about his chances for a new contract with his family racing team.
The son of stock-car legend Dale Earnhardt told the media this week that the talks were "difficult" and that although he thought a deal could be hammered out, "It is just tough."
The Los Angeles Daily News said Tuesday the principals of Dale Earnhardt Inc. have been saying a contract could be wrapped up by spring. But Dale Jr. said not everyone was seeing "eye-to-eye."
Earnhardt's future with DEI became a serious question after his stepmother, Teresa, appeared to question his commitment to NASCAR racing in a Wall Street Journal article.
On Monday's conference call from Daytona Beach, Fla., Earnhardt said their relationship was "in your face" and "ain't a bed of roses."
