CHENNAI, India, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- Xavier Malisse of Belgium completed an impressive week Sunday by downing Austria's Stefan Koubek in the title match of the Chennai Open.

Malisse reached the championship match with an upset of top seed Rafael Nadal. He needed just over an hour to dispatch Koubek, 6-1, 6-3.

"You're always going to have a lot of confidence after beating a player like Nadal. But you have to watch out as well," said Malisse. "In the past I've beaten great players and kind of relaxed the next match. I think I've matured in that way, and I knew I had to be ready for the finals."
