Malisse upsets Nadal at Chennai Open

CHENNAI, India, Jan. 6 (UPI) -- Belgian Xavier Malisse Saturday advanced to the finals of the Chennai Open in India with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) upset of top-seed Spaniard Rafael Nadal.

The third-seed Malisse will face unseeded Austrian Stefan Koubek Sunday for the title at the season-opening event. Koubek surprised fifth-seed Carlos Moya of Spain, 6-3, 6-1, in Saturday's other semifinal.

Coming into Saturday's match, Nadal hadn't dropped a set in his first three matches of 2007.

Koubek needed just 63 minutes to eliminate Moya, who was trying to reach the Chennai final for a fourth straight year.

Sunday's winner will collect a first-prize check for $65,850.
