COL FB: Cincinnati 27, West. Mich. 24

TORONTO, Jan. 6 (UPI) -- Kevin Lovell's 33-yard, fourth-quarter field goal provided the winning points Saturday as Cincinnati edged Western Michigan in the International Bowl, 27-24.

Nate Meyer missed a 51-yard attempt to tie the contest with just over a minute to play.

Cincinnati rushed to a 24-0 lead and then held on as Nick Davila threw for 214 yards and two touchdowns. The Bearcats (8-5) were coached by Brian Kelly, who left Central Michigan to assume the job left vacant when Mark Dantonio moved on to Michigan State.

The Big East Conference finished 5-0 in bowl games this season with Cincinnati joining Louisville, West Virginia, Rutgers and South Florida as winners.

Ryan Cubit threw for 184 yards and a touchdown for Western Michigan (8-5).
