Georgia Tech suspends key player

The statement said Lewis had violated a policy of the university, but provided no further explanation.

Clinch is the team's third-leading scorer with 13.2 points per game. He has hit 47 percent of his three-point shots this season.

"Lewis has been presented with several options, but has been resolute about staying in school at Georgia Tech if at all possible," said Coach Paul Hewitt. "There are a number of scenarios under which Lewis can regain his playing status in the coming months and rejoin our basketball team next season. I can only wish him the best in working with the institute with regard to his pursuit of a degree from Georgia Tech."

The Yellow Jackets are 11-3 for the season and lost their Atlantic Coast Conference opener.
