Djokovic into Adelaide semifinals

ADELAIDE, Australia, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Novak Djokovic moved to the semifinals but two matches were rained out Friday at the Adelaide International tennis tournament in Australia.

Djokovic, from Serbia, defeated American Paul Goldstein 6-4, 7-5 and Australian Chris Guccione knocked out second-seeded Frenchmen Richard Gasquet 1-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) before bad weather halted play.

Quarterfinal matches pairing American Vincent Spadea against Swede Joachim Johansson and Argentina Juan Martin del Potro against Russian Igor Kunitsyn were washed out and are to be made up Saturday.

The tournament semifinals are also set for Saturday with Djokovic awaiting the Spadea-Johansson winner and Guccione meeting the del Potro-Kunitsyn survivor.

The Adelaide International finals are scheduled for Sunday.
