COL BKB: Notre Dame 78, Louisville 62

SOUTH BEND, Ind., Jan. 3 (UPI) -- A 19-point effort by Russell Carter helped No. 22 Notre Dame extend its winning streak to a dozen games Wednesday night with a 78-62 decision over Louisville.

The teams opened their Big East Conference season with the Fighting Irish racing to a 14-point halftime advantage. Luke Harangody contributed 15 points and Tory Jackson had 14 for Notre Dame, which improved to 13-1

Louisville slipped to 10-5 and had a five-game winning streak snapped. The Cardinals were led by Terrence Williams with 18.

The 12 consecutive victories represent the longest winning streak for Notre Dame in 33 seasons.
