MIAMI, Jan. 2 (UPI) -- The Miami Dolphins have given Coach Nick Saban an extra day to decide whether to keep his current job or accept an offer to take over at Alabama.
Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga met with Saban Tuesday and then announced the decision to extend the coach's time to decide his future until 10 a.m. Wednesday morning.
University of Alabama Athletics Director Mal Moore flew to Miami Monday to meet with Saban. Reports indicate the school has offered Saban a deal worth between $35 million and $40 million over an eight to 10-year period.
Saban, 55, has three years left on his contract with the Dolphins. He has a 15-17 record in his two seasons at Miami. The Dolphins went 6-10 this past season, finishing last in the AFC East.
If Saban decides to take over the Crimson Tide, it will be a return not only to the collegiate coaching ranks but also to the SEC. He coached LSU from 2000-04 and had a 48-16 record.
LSU went 13-1 in 2003 when the Tigers claimed the national championship.
