NHL: Toronto 5, Boston 1

TORONTO, Jan. 1 (UPI) -- Mats Sundin had two goals and an assist Monday when the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Boston Bruins, 5-1.

Jeff O'Neill added a goal and an assist for the Maple Leafs, who won for just the second time in their last seven games.

Hal Gill also scored and rookie center Kris Newbury scored his first career NHL goal. Toronto goalie Andrew Raycroft made 27 saves.

Zdeno Chara had the lone goal for Boston, which has lost three of its last four games. Tim Thomas stopped 30-of-35 shots in the loss.
