
DETROIT, Dec. 30 (UPI) -- Detroit Lions Coach Rod Marinelli will have left-hip replacement surgery next week, the Detroit News reported Saturday.
Marinelli, 57, who walks with a noticeable limp because of degeneration in his left-hip joint, previously had replacement surgery on his right hip.
"There isn't going to be a long rehabilitation," he told the newspaper.
Marinelli will coach the Lions in their season finale Sunday at Dallas -- with the team trying to snap a disastrous seven-game losing streak.
Dallas (9-6) will try to solidify its NFC playoff position with a victory.
Even though they play in different divisions -- Detroit in the NFC Central and Dallas in the NFC East -- the teams have played have played every year since 2001.
The Cowboys have won the last three meetings, with a 20-7 victory last season.
