RALEIGH, N.C., Dec. 30 (UPI) -- Justin Williams scored the game-winning goal in the second period Friday night as the Carolina Hurricanes beat Anaheim, 4-2.

Rod Brind'Amour scored the game-tying goal at 4:31 of the period, about two-and-a-half minutes before Williams' goal. Ray Whitney had a goal and two assists, and Cam Ward made 25 saves on 27 shots for the Hurricanes, who have won four of their last five games.

Teemu Selanne scored both goals for Anaheim, while -- in just his second NHL start -- Michael Wall allowed three goals on 26 shots for the Ducks, who suffered only their sixth regulation loss of the season.

It was a night of tribute for Brind'Amour, who scored his 1,000th NHL point Nov. 4 in Ottawa.

He is the 71st player in NHL history to reach that plateau.
