NBA: Orlando 97, Miami 68

ORLANDO, Fla., Dec. 30 (UPI) -- Dwight Howard had 18 points and 10 rebounds Saturday night to help the Orlando Magic trounce Miami, 97-68.

In the best defensive effort in franchise history, the Magic held Miami to just 10 points in the second period and 11 in the fourth -- and broke a four-game losing streak.

Reserve Trevor Ariza had 16 points and 10 rebounds, and Tony Battie had 12 points and six rebounds. Hedo Turkoglu had 11 points, four rebounds and four assists; and, in his longest stint of the season, rookie sharp-shooter J.J. Redick had nine points and two steals.

Orlando's lead was 48-37 at the half and 74-57 after three quarters.

Jason Kapono led the short-handed Heat with 15 points and three rebounds.

Dorrell Wright totaled 12 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals for Miami. Alonzo Mourning added nine points and two blocked shots.

Star guard Dwyane Wade missed his fourth straight game because of a sprained right wrist.
