NHL: Montreal 4, Washington 1

WASHINGTON, Dec. 28 (UPI) -- Sheldon Souray had a goal and an assist Wednesday night as Montreal beat the Washington Capitals, 4-1.

Mathieu Dandenault and Aaron Downey scored in the first period to give Montreal a 2-0 lead at the first intermission.

Saku Koivu scored on the power play at 14:36 of the third period on an assist by Souray; and Christobal Huet gave up one goal on 31shots for the Canadiens, who have won six times in their last seven games.

Alexander Semin scored on the power play in the third period for the lone goal; and Olaf Kolzig allowed three goals on 26 shots for the Capitals, who have dropped four of their last five games.

On the power play, Montreal went 1-for-4; and Washington was 1-for-8.
